Hi,
Yes you can unless the program is copy protected. The copy protection thing has got nothing to do with the digital transition, just so you know. You satelite settop box acts as a converter so don’t worry about a thing.
Good luck!

Q&A: do i need a tv receiver or other equipment for my plasma tv?

By - Last updated: Thursday, September 2, 2010

Question by petertherock: do i need a tv receiver or other equipment for my plasma tv?
i have been using analog tv for many years and have finally decided to buy a panasonic plasma tv. the tv set i am going to buy has an integrated ASTC and has HDMI (whatever that is) for the upcoming change to digital in 2009.

i hear about hdmi cables and other types of equipment like tv receivers. i also wanted to add that the antenna i use for my analog tv is one of those long weird looking wires on top of houses.

i was wondering if i needed any accessories for my tv to get the hd local channels and be able to fully utilize the hdtv functionalities (for local tv). i do not have or want cable or satellite. thanks!

Answer by oracle128au
The plasma, having integrated ATSC, means it has a digital TV tuner built in (presumably High Definition, but possibly Standard Definition, you should check) . You don’t need any other equipment to watch HD TV (unless it’s only a SD tuner, in which case you need a HD set top box – an external digital tuner device).

FYI, HDMI is a type of connection/cable. It carries digital video and digital surround audio in the same cable. It’s possible your set top box will have HDMI output, which can plug into the plasma’s HDMI input.

I have a question about Satellite TV or whatever its called?

By - Last updated: Thursday, September 2, 2010

Question by Ms. Thang: I have a question about Satellite TV or whatever its called?
Well whenever my family buys a house (they are planning to anyway) my mom would like to purchase Satellite TV or whatever you call it the dish that goes up on your roof with MTV etc…well if we get the service from Qwest or DishNetwork or DirecTV and then we purchase a seperate dish with some other channel service well my mom’s friend had a dish with the words “DirecTV world” and she has Filipino channel. I was wondering if you buy the regular dish package then we decided to purchase that same channel too (Filipino channel, but I forgot what its called, T??) would it also cost for that service or would it be included with the other Cartoon Network, etc dish would we have to pay like 19.99 or 29.99 for that channel too? Just wondering because we haven’t had dishes like that before so we dont have experience with it.

Also if we bundle with Qwest (MN) with the TV, phone, and Internet would it be cheaper or more expensive? It is ninety nine dollars from what i hear.

I have DirecTV and I love it, I’m bundled with AT&T and yes I save money by doing it. They have several packages and your monthly price depends on the package you choose. The have channels in many languages and Dish Network does too. I think, but am not for sure that Dish offers more. And I can assure you any additional channels you request outside your package will cost you more.
